A year ago, I didn’t like how big I had become. I looked older than my age, easily got tired and felt unhealthy. I decided to make a change. I joined a gym and had a goal to lose 10kg in 3 months. Such a herculean task it was! I weighed 77kg, a size 14. I started to gym not less than 2 hours a day, 6 times a week. There were very distracting times but I kept my focus on my goal.
I stopped eating in between meals, taking in junk foods especially fizzy drinks and chocolate. I I eliminated high cholesterol food, ate lots of veggies, fruits, oatmeal, wheat bread, low-fat milk, low-fat oil and drank lots of water. Drawing a diet plan helped me a great deal. I replaced high cholesterol oil with low cholesterol oil, high-fat milk with low-fat milk, ripe plantains with unripe plantains. I eat boiled eggs instead of fried eggs. I didn’t starve myself, I ate right. Exercising and dieting required a great deal of discipline and consistency.
With a high level of discipline and consistency, I went from 77kg to 67kg. I lost 10kg in 3 months, I went down from a size 14 to a size 10. I achieved my goal! I didn’t stop exercising and dieting. Aerobics, squats, abdominal, arms and dance workout were my usual workout.
In another 3 months, I lost 10kg. I dropped from a size 10 to a size 8! I started becoming comfortable and healthy. There were discouraging comments from the same people who used to tell me I’m fat. There were also times I felt like spoiling myself to an improper diet. It wasn’t as easy an hot knife through butter.
Exercising and proper dieting continued and I recently move from size 8 to 6 after another 3 months! My health has become better, fitness has become a lifestyle and a passion. Losing weight is no longer a goal, staying fit and encouraging others on their weight-loss journey is.
